One of the most pernicious problems that any aspiring professional shooter faces is muzzle rise. This phenomenon is the logical end result of creating an explosion inside a tube. All those gases and all that force must escape the rifle somehow, so they burst out the barrel and push it up along the way. You could have a perfect line on your target, but your bullet may still end up inches above it.

Those same byproducts also produce muzzle flash, that brief yet a bright burst of light visible after each trigger pull. It can give away their location, which would be a hindrance during hunts. It can also blind the shooter, which is undesirable in any situation. In other words, gases are inevitable effects, yet their effects present serious problems. What can be done about them?

AR-15 muzzle brakes and flash hiders can help counter this issue. These add-ons include holes that run along with their structure, providing additional exits for all the gases created by the powder ignition. This one change may seem small, but the effect is noticeable. Recoil and flash are severely diminished — never totally eliminated, but still reduced enough that you can control the rifle more easily. The result is better aim, or at least one less obstacle to hitting your target.

As great as AR-15 muzzle brakes and flash hiders can be, we are always asking a big question here at Gorilla Machining: how can they be better? To that end, we created and released our own takes on these concepts, with better recoil control and better design overall.
